Livebait exterior

Livebait interior
Tucked away on the edge of Albert Square, this trendy, if slightly expensive, seafood restaurant is something of a hidden secret in Manchester’s dining circles. A wide variety of seafood dishes, incorporating prawns, mussels, lobster and fish, form the basis of the menu, though a range of land-based meats are also available. For the real Livebait experience, the Seafood platter for two at £55 pounds is wholly recommended (and well worth the hefty price tag). As you’d expect from such an upmarket establishment, the staff are courteous and readily available to talk you through some of the many ingredients in the dishes. The restaurant itself is smartly decked out; tiles and deep green booths create an intimate dining venue that you’d almost suspect was located on a pier by the coast.

8/108/108/108/108/108/108/108/10 Fantastic Fish! by Hannah

I booked my works do here as my colleague had been recently and loved the food. There were 8 of us having dinner and we all had a fab time. The waiter was so friendly, and although it was a bit empty at first it soon livened up and the atmosphere was great. As it was a bit of a celebration we all decided to treat ourselves to the oyster and prosecco offer to start, followed by the traditional fish and chips. The food was good, there was plenty of choice on the wine list and we even had a few cocktails made specially for us to round off the night!! I would definitely recommend.

4/104/104/104/10 Good for basic fish 'n' chips. by Terry Sleeper

. . . . but little else. Even then, there are not enough chips! Above all, stay away from the fish pie. It's a gloopy mess. The house white is super-good. The service is fussy. Prices over-the-top.

8/108/108/108/108/108/108/108/10 Good value Saturday lunch by PAB

Just had a very enjoyable lunch on a wet Saturday afternoon. Excellent, attentive service from entering the door to paying the bill. Can recommend the two course £12.50 menu which presented us with good starters and great main course. One crit - we asked for a glass of house white and a glass of house red, but instead got wine list wines that were delicious, but not house wine prices - do they have house wines??

came highly recommended, however we found the food expensive and served in pub grub surroundings.not one i would recommend to friends

4/104/104/104/10 Bad food by Gerry Taylor

Livebait was a rip-off. High prices, badly prepared food - I had fish goujons with coconut and lime and they came burnt, couldn't taste the coconut and with a piece of lemon instead of lime. Unimpressed. Mains were ok but side orders with the mains were limp and overdone and one dish just didn't turn up at all. The waiter came over again and again too - why do they do that, when all you want is to eat your meal in peace? If we want you we'll let you know!

8/108/108/108/108/108/108/108/10 Nothing fishy about Livebait by Lisa Holdsworth

Went down to Livebait about a month back. The restaurant is nice inside, a lot of deep greens and tiles and it is very, very clean (always a plus!).I had the whole seabass with some new potatoes. The fish was filleted at the table in front of me by the waiter, which was nice - he even gave me some tips on how to do it myself. It tasted delicious, and as fresh as I've ever had it on the coast. My friends were equally pleased with their meals and all in all it was a great meal, helped along by great service
