Awards can be a dangerous business for a restaurant, and many an establishment has gone downhill after an accolade or two. Thankfully, this isn’t the case with Stock. Despite its almost annual decoration, it still remains one of the finest Italian restaurants in the North West. As soon as you enter Stock’s chequered floor atrium, you can see that this restaurant is a little bit special. Stock has a reputation for fine customer service with a host of polite and friendly staff, and even finer food. Indeed, each meal on the wide and varied menu is made with fresh ingredients, designed to accustom you to a real taste of rural Italian cooking, a format complemented by an authentic (and award winning) wine list. Surprisingly, it isn’t as expensive as you’d expect, although be prepared to pay out more than you would at any other Italian restaurant – Pizza Hut this ain’t.

2/102/10 Don't go by James

Very disappointing, overpriced and overrated. Dined there on a Saturday night at 8pm, not particularly busy but we waited for the starter and main plates to be taken for 20 minutes. The waiter, when told this, seemed not to care. The duck I ordered was overcooked and they made it perfectly clear that they thought I was wrong in this opinion. Our complaints were completely ignored. Overall, I wouldn't go again and would definitely not recommend it.

1/10 Cold Food by Elaine Dutton

Four of us ate at this restaurant. The time between starter and main course was about 30mins which was far too long. Then, when my main meal arrived, it was cold, the other 3 meals arrived 5 mins later! I sent my meal back, this was returned, still cold and the steak was now overcooked. By this time I'd lost my appetite and didn't bother to reorder anything else. The waitress did apologise but there was no sign of the manager or an offer of a complimentary drink for the inconvenience! I was extremely disappointed with the whole meal, it was not worth the money. I won't be going back.

Went for a birthday celebration. Chose the Table d'hote menu - outstanding value at £16.95 for 3 courses. Food excellent, wine superb and service great.

5/105/105/105/105/10 Time to take Stock by Ben

What a conundrum of a restaurant! I've eaten there a few times (a number of corporate lunchtimes and a couple of evenings) and I can honestly say that its a Jekyll and Hyde place. On occasions I've had quality food, great service and an excellent overall experience. On other times I've suffered disinterested staff, seriously overcooked (in one case actually burned) and a distinctly underwhelming experience. If you decide to go there you may have a brilliant experience or may decide never to go again. For my part I'm happy to risk the company expense account there in the future, but will be spending my own moolah elsewhere!

I'd rather eat in Stock than anywhere else in Manchester. The food is exquisite and the service is impeccable. They offer the same standard of food as the River Room or the French but without having to try so hard, and that makes it a better dining experience overall. I'd recommend it to anyone.

i was taken to stock for my birthday a couple of weeks ago. it's the most beautiful restaurant ive been to in manchester, i felt like i was in a 40s film. the food was excellent and the waiter was really attentive too. can't wait till i have another excuse to celebrate, i know where i'll be going

1/10 It's a Shame by Helen Woodford

I have eaten at the Stock several times over the last three years and the food is great. However after an experince this saturday I will never go back. To be honest we didn't even get to the pre-dinner drinks. They have put so many more tables in that we felt claustrophobic and trapped in. Why do they have to put profit before quality. It is a shame.

8/108/108/108/108/108/108/108/10 impress a date by Bill Miller

Read your review on Stock so thought I'd give it a go. Food was excellent, one of best Italian meals I've had in a long time. wine list extensive and thankfully not as expensive as most London restaurants of the same stature. Loved the building interior. Great place to go with a hot date. How could she/he not succumb?
