Our review:

Every food lover has a favourite Italian restaurant and ours is Piccolino's, Manchester. And judging by its constant flow of customers (booking in advance is a must) and the success of its sister restaurant in Cheshire, we’re not the only ones to feel this way.

On entry, navigate your way through the potentially lethal revolving doors before you’re greeted by the manager who, coincidentally, is one of the biggest characters in town. The staff are mostly Italian - which is always a good sign - and the food is what makes the Piccolino's experience shine. Highlights of the starters are the chicken livers crostini with grapes, which is rich and dangerously moreish. The bruschetta is also consistently simple but great. Mains are a mixture of pizza, pasta, meats and fish dishes with our favourite being the Corn Fed Chicken with gnocchi in a garlic and wild mushroom sauce. If you have room, the hot chocolate pudding is outstanding and the wine list is very respectable too, with Gavi de Gavi a firm favourite.

We have returned to Piccolino's time and time again and we’ve never had anything but a good time. If only all restaurants were so reliable.

good food, good wine by Steve and Jenny (rated 9/10)
First night in Manchester and a great meal to start the weekend off.

Lovely venue with nice staff, good food, and good wine! Very impressed overall.

Managed to get a table for two without booking and only a short ten minute wait.

Fabulous time by Jayne Barnes (rated 10/10)
Had a lovely time here yesterday, the food was amazing, the staff were so attentive and ever so helpful, I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anybody, it is well worth a visit.

Lively Atmosphere, Good Food. by Andy Bates (rated 8/10)
my partner and I love dining out and particulary love Italian food. We have had the pleasure of visiting Piccolino's on about a dozen or so occasions and we really do like the place very much. The manager is indeed a character and I'm not surprised he is well known in town. He always greets us personally and his mainly Italian staff are friendly and attentative and usually quite efficient.
The food has in our experience always been of a high standard and the wine list is quite comprehensive. We have eaten at cheaper restaurants but the atmosphere at Piccolino's is lively and welcoming and quite hard to beat. Overall its a very pleasant eating experience and I would recommend it to anyone.

Amazing by Anon (rated 9/10)
I went to piccolino's with my family. I have to say it was the most enjoyable meal. The cocktail i had was an amazing concoction. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The restaurant was cosy and decorated to the theme. I would recomend it to anyone that wants a good time and a delicious meal.

Disappointing by Polly Townsend (rated 3/10)
I have eaten in Piccolinos many times & found the service & food excellent. However, on my last visit I was extremely disappointed, it tasted very nice, but the size of the portion was a starter size & when I complained was told that this was company policy for portion control. Having previously worked in the catering industry I found this unacceptable & we will not be eating there again.

WORTH A VISIT by brindleys (rated 8/10)
VISITED WITH FRIENDS ON RECOMMENDATION, AND MUST SAY THET THE SERVICE, FOOD AND ATMOSPHERE WAS VERY GOOD,AND CERTAINLY UP THERE WITH MANCHESTERS ITALIAN RESTAURANTS.GIVE IT A TRY.

Bad Service and Poor Food September 2007 by Leighton (rated 3/10)
The squid was rubbery, the seafood pasta contained unopened shells and the pudding selection was bland. The manager was not concerned. One to avoid!

Not Happy by stella (rated 3/10)
Went on my daughter's hen party on Saturday evening, would not go again. Majority of people who had pasta said it was dry and did not enjoy it. Our meal was rushed and we were practically thrown out at the end because they wanted our tables; even though we had not been there too long and had spent over £600. One girl was even refused a drink, because they wanted us to pay the bill and we hadn't asked for it. Staff were not very friendly. So if you want a nice relaxing meal, with friendly staff and good food, then I definitely do not recommend Piccolino's, and I know none of our party would go again.

Really nice restaurant by jenny (rated 7/10)
Really nice restaurant and very attentive staff. the service was great even on a busy sat night! the only down side was the space, it was a bit too cramped and a tight squeeze getting past tables when people are sat down. Amaising chocolate cake!!

piccolino's by paul clark (rated 8/10)
This is another of those busy city centre restaurants(just off Albert Sq) with an Italian based menu. Conceived by Derek & Edwina Lilley in 1999 following the £18 million sale of their restaurant business Est Est Est to City Centre Restaurants, Piccolino's has grown into a chain in its own right in the intervening eight years. It's full of suits and city types at lunchtime with a noisy and lively atmosphere but it calms down a little in the evening. Menu middlemarket Italian European with a good wine list. Truth is the atmosphere is usually better than the food though. I reckon you can get a better Italian (type) meal at Croma but I admit that though busy, the ambience there never seems quite to match Piccolino's.
