Our review:
Imagine the scene. You left work for the weekend eight hours ago and nipped into the local for ‘just the one’ with your workmates. Eight hours later you’ve been drunk and come out on the other side, you’ve sprained an ankle dancing to ‘All Night Long’ by Lionel Ritchie and you’ve told your boss that not only does he not pay you enough, he had bad breath too. There is only one thing to do in a situation like this… make your excuses, head down to the Northern Quarter and go soothe away your cares with a nice bit of grouse.

Hunters BBQ is, quite frankly, a little odd. It looks absolutely no different from an average Asian takeaway, except the fluorescent cards dotted around the walls advertise pheasant, venison, quail and any other type of game you might get a hankering for after midnight.

Of course some people cynically say it’s just more Northern Quarter pretension to go along with Socio Rehab and Odd, but the loyal customer base seems to contradict that. Admittedly the novelty value does drag in a fair amount of new custom, but the substantial number of regulars come back simply because the food tastes good.

So next time you’ve had a bit of a crazy night, try it out for yourself. At best, you’ll have discovered your new favourite takeaway, and if you don’t like it at least you’ll have found a fitting end to you latest drunken anecdote.

Hunters is nothing to do with the current northern quarter bar scene. It, and all the other asian cafes in this area were set up in the 60's and 70's to serve the large number of Asians working in the rag trade in the area. Go there during the day or early evening for the good food and friendly staff rather than after the pub shuts and the out of towners (see above) come in.

Hunters do the best Chana daal (chickpeas) in the world!
