A distinctly Eastern experience, don’t let the modern layout of Rajdoot fool you – this is a restaurant with its roots firmly planted in authentic Indian cuisine. A delicate mixture of original dishes and modern fare, the kitchen team are staffed with chefs who understand their material (most of them were brought over from India). Subtle flavours and exotic herbs and spices give a new angle on even the most homogenised of dishes, providing a refreshing and often surprising dining experience. The only disappointment comes from the service that seemingly fluctuates between the extremes of intrusive or absent, although this is a minor niggle and should not detract too substantially from this sublime venue.

1/10 Very disappointing! by Maggy Hughes

Having visited this restaurant in the past and thoroughly enjoying the subtle Indian flavours my husband and I decided to try it again - what a mistake! We arrived at 8.15 on a Wednesday evening and the restaurant was virtually empty. We ordered the Rajdoot platter for 2 as a starter and this arrived individually plated with a peice of greasy bread and very basic salad and was not very warm. Main courses were chosen from the chefs speciality menu Chilli Chicken Garlicand Chicken Jhol so expected something special - afraid not. The Chilli Chicken had pieces of virtually raw garlic in it, both dishes were not very hot and the quality of the chicken was not good, certainly didn't taste like the tikka meat that was promised. It appeared that the chicken was added quite late to the sauces. Our side dishes of channa massalla and paneer chilli garlic were also uninspiring, the panneer contained pieces of virtually raw ginger. The staff also were pretty uninspiring - don't think they were enjoying it either. Will not be back!

2/102/10 Rajdoot Manchester by Indi

Booked a table for 2 on a staurday night. Got there at 8:25, nobody to receive us had to find somebody to tell them i have a booking for 8:30. I can excuse this since they were busy. But i can not excuse the fact that they were not friendly at all. The food was not good at all, we ordered a chicken dish (can not remember the name at all), it was basically boiled chicken with surry sauce added as an after thought. In my wisdom thought i better order a rogan Josh, this was slightly better. I would not go back to this eaterie again.

This is one Manchester's oldest established traditional Indian restaurants. The restaurant rarely gets too busy and so some complain of a lack of vibrant atmosphere but they probably miss the point. This restaurant offers traditional Indian cuisine cooked by a masterchef. It's not the place to go if you are looking for a riotous time. This is very much for serious foodies who just happen to fancy an Indian tonight. Not cheap either.
