The Village Restaurant prides itself on authentic food from Pakistan. It perhaps has a tendency to be more "Lahore" based. The restaurant attempts to set an extremely high standard using only the best spices and fresh meats etc. All the food is prepared by experienced and talented chefs supervised by the "King of Chefs", Babar. It was the owners "vision" to open a "traditional" eaterie, based on cooking only authentic Pakistani cuisine. There is an extensive menu and you get what is cooking fresh on that day. It is true genuine Pakistani home cooking. The Village is based on an old concept of a smaller menu concentrating on quality. We use only the best ingredients and spices. We have our own in house butcher and we buy only the best free-range chicken and we do not dress mutton up as lamb. We only use lamb unlike other establishments? The Village cooks fresh curries everyday and you can see the chefs cooking fresh kebabs and curries on the wok as in the old days.

This place has really gone downhill by Ellie
This used to be a great restaurant. Since the change of management, I can safely say that's no longer the case. I've been twice since then, and won't be going back. Last night was a disaster - it took 15 minutes to get some soft drinks. When we ordered, the waitress seemed to have no idea what was actually on the menu. The food arrived lukewarm/cold, in dribs and drabs, so we were all left waiting. One of the dishes wasn't available, so we ordered something else, and we had to remind the waitress about some tabouleh, which appeared much later, and the bread that was supposed to come with the dip we'd ordered. The grilled prawns were advertised as coming as a meal (£10.50) with rice and vegetables - they came instead with tinned potatoes and sweetcorn. The rest of the food was clumsily overspiced and old-tasting. When we finally (we're talking 15 minutes again) got the bill, the meatballs (the dish that wasn't available) were still listed in place of the cheaper alternative we'd been given. Once this mistake was rectified (another 10 minutes), we had to ask the waitress to come over so we could pay. Unwelcoming place, awful, awful service, lame food - was embarrassed to have suggested to my friends that we go there.

Great food, great value by Alan
Went to Village tonight and had one of the best Indian meals I've had in ages. A really good and authentic menu, really good value (I ordered from the menu, but there's a £7-50, 5-course meal deal which is just amazing).

THE FOOD WAS FANTASTIC MATCHED BY THE SERVICE. THE WAITERS WERE FRIENDLY AND VERY HELPFUL IN REGARDS TO THE MANY CHOICES ON THE MENU . WE WERE TREATED TO A FREE BOTTLE OF WINE AND HAVE SINCE DECIDED TO BOOK THE RESTAURANT FOR A BIRTHDAY PARTY. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT .

Went again to village with pals from Uni.Food was as good as last time. Asked for staff curry preceded by the sizzling village special. Did bring some new friends. Not disappointed and great Shisha afterwards. Ended up staying well after bedtime. All you students get down there. Full meal for £7.50 Even threw in vodka shots for my drinking buddies!!!!!!!!
