The New Emperor is a large, modern, Cantonese restaurant popular with the local Chinese community. It is now winning plaudits as one of the very best restaurants in Chinatown, as word spreads beyond the Chinese community that the New Emperor offers probably the most authentic and traditional Chinese food available in city centre Manchester. Try one of the duck dishes, and if you find better quality or value anywhere else in Chinatown, we'd like to know about it!

I've always rated the food here but my issues were with the decor and approach of the staff. We have just got back from a straightforward but superb meal there: the interior has been refreshed and the staff have been to charm school: a change in management or generation? My party - visitors to Manchester and connoisseurs - were delighted. Not overpriced, service friendly and measured and overall delightful.

The food was very nice, the staff service absolutely fantastic. I will always come again.

We visited on Saturday evening, after reading a few reviews on other websites i was apprehensive!!! It was a perfect meal, not a fancy place but very clean and the food was excellant, service good, not rushed!!! I have visted the Yang Sing and enjoyed the meal here far better!!!

6/106/106/106/106/106/10 Not bad by Sammie Tan

I went there a few times, as I'm Hong Kong Chinese, I can confirm the Chinese food there is authentic. Once the owner of the restaurant even gave me free egg tarts. The set dinner (available in Chinese menu only) is a bargain! However, once my bf (English) ordered and picked up take away there, I was so disappointed by the food! The taste was horrible and the portions were tiny. Emm, I can say the Chinese Menu is good, not sure about the English one.....

9/109/109/109/109/109/109/109/109/10 The New Emperor - The Real Deal by Paul Edwards

As a regular visitor to Manchester on business I tend to eat in Chinatown about once a week. I've tried pretty much every Chinese restaurant in Chinatown now as far as I can work out and reckon the three best are The New Emperor, Pacific and Yang Sing. Of the three I believe the New Emperor to be the most authentic - certainly if the clientele is to be believed, which is predominantly Chinese. It is said by locals to serve the very best duck in all Chinatown, whilst the Dim Sum are similarly legendary. It's also a little less expensive than its competitors. But if you are looking to impress a business associate I would head to the Yang Sing. If you want to impress a date take her to the Pacific and if you want to impress a mate take him to the New Emperor. Also a great place to go with bunch of mates after a match at Old Trafford or City of Manchester Stadium.
